NEWPORT — A 22-year-old man from Newport Center is facing charges after police say he ran from them after being caught speeding through Westfield.
Police were monitoring traffic on Vermont Route 100 at around noon on Tuesday when they say they clocked a truck at 85 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The driver, later identified as Brandon Baraw, attempted to elude the traffic stop.
Police say they pursued Baraw at speeds over 100 mph on Route 100 from Westfield to Lowell.
“The truck drove past a VTrans litter pick up crew on VT Route 100 in Lowell at a high rate of speed,” a statement issued by Deputy Gonyaw reads.
Police say they discontinued the chase for the safety of others on the roadway.
The truck was located on Hoisington Road in Lowell, and Baraw was identified as the driver.
He is being charged with excessive speed, attempting to elude, and grossly negligent operation.
