Victims, gunman identified in Newport shooting

NEWPORT — Investigators have identified the victims in a shooting that took place this morning in Newport.

The deceased victim has been identified as Kevin Atkins, 38, of Newport.

The injured victim is identified as Atkins’ wife, Nicole Atkins, 29, also of Newport.

Police say she suffered gunshot wounds to the neck and chest and is reported to be stable at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

According to police, the initial investigation indicates the perpetrator is Paul Brown, 51, of Newport.

Authorities say evidence indicates Brown shot Kevin and Nicole Atkins before fatally shooting himself early Monday morning inside a home on School Stree in downtown Newport.

The investigation is ongoing, and police say they are working to determine what may have precipitated the shooting.

  1. Honestly that sounds like some kind of an affair deal with the guy Brown shooting himself after shooting the victims. I’m not positive I don’t know these people but have watched a lot of different TV shows and movies where most times it was due to affairs or some kind of love gone wrong. Unless it was drugs there’s a lot of that type of crap going on too! It’s so sad this type of stuff keeps happening!

  2. It’s a father of the female and her husband and then shot himself what part of that sounds like love affair sounds like a mental illness to me to be able to shoot your own child (brain damage)

  4. Actually no affair deal at all he was the girls step dad and they think some kinda mental illness issue was the reason ….no drugs nothing like that
