NEWPORT — Farmers markets will be able to re-open on Friday, following guidelines issued by the state.

The Newport Farmers Market, held in Gardner Park, posted today on Facebook that it is scheduled to open on May 16.

The new guidelines include outdoor markets only and require wearing of face masks by vendors.

Only food vendors with raw or value-added agricultural products or edible plants are permitted, so no craft vendors will be allowed to set up.

Social distancing of vendors and customers will also be required.

According to the new guidelines, no entertainment will be allowed in any market as well.

Pets are prohibited according to the new rules.

Markets will also have to designate a health and safety officer to ensure compliance with all requirements.

According to the guidelines, the public is encouraged to wear cloth face coverings any time they are interacting with others.
