Dandelion Run organizers offer virtual option, merge this year’s run with fall event

DERBY — Organizers of this year’s Dandelion Run say they have decided to postpone and merge this year’s event with another event in the fall, as well as finding a way to continue to support a local charity with a more socially distant option.

In light of the current crisis, the Dandelion Run has been merged with Fly to Pie, a run, biking, or hiking event that will be held on Saturday, October 3.

Organizers say they will also still be honoring the dandelion and fundraising for Umbrella, with a virtual run/walk/bike event during the week of May 16 through May 24.

To take part, run, walk, or bike anywhere on your own and pledge $1 or more per mile to Umbrella.

There is no registration fee, and organizers will send you a bib.

You can invite friends and family to donate something for each mile.

Afterward, report your day with a picture of you and your bib.

Send in the donations you have raised and organizers will bundle them and send them off, with 100 percent going directly to Umbrella for its work supporting and advocating for victims of domestic and interpersonal violence.

If interested, register here.

Anyone who has already registered for “the Dandy,” as it’s called, has been offered a full refund.

They can also move their registrations to Fly to Pie or the Freedom Run.

Fly to Pie offers 10K, 13.5-mile, 17-mile, and 26.2-mile tracks on dirt roads at the height of the fall foliage season.

The Freedom Run takes place on Saturday, July 4, and offers a 10-mile, 10K, 5K, and 1-mile distances on the Newport/Derby bike path and Memphremagog Trails.

Registrants can also move their registrations over to the Dandy 2021, to be held on May 22, 2021.
