DERBY — Walmart has joined other large retailers in announcing a move to limit the number of customers in each store during the coronavirus crisis.

Starting today, stores will limit capacity to roughly 20 percent or five customers per 1,000 square feet of space.

Customers will be directed to enter the store through one entry point, where they will be counted.

Once a store reaches capacity, customers will be then be admitted on a “1-out-1-in” basis.

The company says the goal is to promote social distancing and keep customers from coming into close contact with each other.

Walmart says they are also starting to make masks and gloves available to workers who want them.
