NEWPORT — Local club “Cars of Yesteryear” will be sponsoring a fund-raising raffle to support the community.
The first prize winner will receive a $500 Visa card, second prize will get a $150 Visa card, and the third prize winner will receive $100 worth of car detailing donated by Auto Outfitters.
Each year, the Cars of Yesteryear Club donates cash or goods to the United Church of Newport Food Shelf, Derby Green Nursing Home, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Autism Speaks, the Alzheimer’s Foundation, and the North Country Union High School Athletic Department.
The club encourages and supports young people who are setting their sights on careers in an automotive field.
Each year the club donates two $500 scholarships to students graduating from the North Country Career Center who will attend an institute of higher learning in an automotive related course.
Also, a three-tier toolbox equipped with a basic set of tools is given to a junior and a senior.
In addition, Cars of Yesteryear co-sponsors a vehicle safety day with the career center’s automotive students.
The event provides for a free safety inspection, by the students, of any motor vehicle an owner presents.
