Newport police hosting community conversation regarding opioid crisis

NEWPORT — The Newport Police Department will be hosting a community conversation on August 30, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the United Church in Newport.

The meeting was called in response to recent inquiries regarding the response to the opioid crisis in the Newport area.

Everyone is invited to join community members, local law enforcement, community organizers and your neighbors to learn what is happening in the community and to get information on new initiatives.

There will be opportunity for community members to share thoughts in regards to actions they would like to see in the community as well as ask questions.

“The opioid crisis is a nationwide epidemic that has affected all kinds of communities, including ours,” Chief DiSanto said. “We’re committed to addressing this issue in close cooperation with residents and community organizations, and I invite anyone who would like to participate in this dialogue to join us.”
