NEWPORT — The Newport Police Department is seeking two individuals wanted for questioning in connection with an incident that occurred where a gunshot was fired.
On Friday police received multiple 911 calls reporting that a fight was taking place at the Maplefields on Main Street. A large crowd was gathering and yelling, and there was at least one report of a gunshot being fired.
When police arrived the crowd had started to disperse and both subjects that had been reported to be the primary individuals involved in the incident had fled in opposite directions.
The suspect who is believed to have fired a gun fled up Third Street toward Prospect Street.
Police began an on-scene investigation and learned from multiple witnesses that at least one gunshot had been fired after an altercation between two men.
After an extensive search of the area, police were unable to locate any shell casing or the individual who fired the gun.
Police were able to locate the other male allegedly involved in the altercation, who is believed to have been the person the gun was fired at.
No injuries were reported.
Police say they are seeking a male and female wanted for questioning in connection with this incident.
The male subject is described as being between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing approximately 130 to 140 pounds with a thin build, dark hair, a dark complexion and wearing a black jacket and blue pants.
The female subject is described as approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall with a medium to heavy build, light complexion, brown hair, and possibly an eyebrow ring.

Stop allowing people to lounge there. In the winter time it looks like a warming shelter and on the 1st it looks like the Methadone Clinic
Maplefeilds is awful an nasty a lot of ppl just hang out there. I used to go there but some ppl that hang around there are nasty
Police need to be more of a presence on Main Street, not always in their cars. When I grew up there was always a policeman walking the Main Street in Newport & on Fridays, they directed traffic.
Mapelfields had better hire trained armed security before they get into legal difficulties for failing to do so. This is an emerging hot spot and ignoring it will be no defense in a civil court. The cops can’t do it all and Mapelfields is only one of the hot spots in Newport. I live next to one of these “hot spots” which requires an inordinate supply of police services. The police have always been quick to respond but people can’t expect them to park a unit outside 24/7. There’s not enough money in the budget. If there are problems at a business, it is up to the business to resolve the problem through private means.
