NEWPORT — Police are investigating the death of a New Hampshire man found near an ice fishing shanty.

On Sunday, a missing persons report came in for John Barry, 82, of Gorham, New Hampshire.

Barry was last seen driving a GMC Canyon pickup truck. Information from the report suggested that he may have been ice fishing on Lake Memphremagog.

A trace of Barry’s phone showed him to be about a mile north of the Claremont Terrace cell tower. A Newport police officer located the vehicle and noticed a nearby ice shanty.

Police say Barry was found just outside the shanty. He was taken to North County Hospital by Newport Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

The facts and circumstances of Barry’s death are under investigation.

Police say at this time, foul play is not suspected.
