BARNET — Detectives say they have identified a body found partially covered in snow by a passing motorist near the Barnet and Ryegate town line last night.

Police say the victim has been identified as Greg Davis, 49, of Hawkins Road in Danville.

Preliminary autopsy results revealed the cause of death is multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso, and the manner of death is homicide, police say.

Major Crime Unit Detectives are working closely with the Caledonia County State’s Attorney and are receiving assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshal Service, and United States Attorney’s Office.

The preliminary investigation has led investigators to believe that this was not a random incident.

Detectives say they are interested in speaking with anyone who has information and who noticed any suspicious activity on Hawkins Road, Peacham Road or the Danville area in general over the weekend.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-748-3111.
