BARTON — A train struck a vehicle in Barton this afternoon.
At around 3:00 p.m. police received a report of a crash at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Route 5.
A trooper responded to the scene and met with the driver, identified as 88-year-old Peter Cocoros, of Barton.
“Investigation revealed Cocoros failed to stop with proper distance at the flashing signal prior to the train tracks on Eastern Avenue,” Trooper Calvin Burns said in his report.
The oncoming train struck Cocoros’s vehicle.
According to police, Cocoros sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries, but refused transportation to the hospital.
Eastern Avenue was re-opened after debris was cleared.
