BARTON — Authorities say that a student’s threats led administrators to lockdown Lake Region on Tuesday afternoon, sending students home early.

According to the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department, the student, a 16-year-old who attended Lake Region, threatened another student with physical harm.

The threats were issued by phone and text message and also directed at a school staff member.

The juvenile will face a charge of disorderly conduct and has since been expelled from school.

“Lake Region Union High School and Orleans County Sheriff’s Department want to thank the student who brought this incident to the attention of Lake Region’s administrators, so they could take the appropriate action to ensure the safety of their school,” the department said in a statement.

Police say the incident remains under investigation, and ask anyone with information to contact Deputy Jesse Testut at 802-334-3333.
