NEWPORT — Caregivers and family members must engage in difficult and sensitive conversations at times. In an attempt to “dial down” the conflict and make progress on tough issues, a series called “Critical Conversations” is being offered in Newport on Thursdays, April 27 through May 18, 2017 at Goodrich Library.

First up is Dementia Conversations, April 27, 6-8 p.m at Goodrich Library. This workshop will help the community talk effectively with and about people who have dementia, and about medical, driving and financial issues. The talk will be xpertly lead by Pam Smith, NEK Council on Aging.

Other workshops are We Need to Talk on May 4, about helping our elders give up the car keys when it’s time and how to make that work, and Effective Communication Strategies with Alzheimer’s on May 11.

All workshops are lead by experts in the field. There is no fee to attend, but RSVPs are welcome to contact 802.487.9327 or
[email protected].

The series is supported by The Orleans County Restorative Justice Center, NEK Council on Aging, Northeast Kingdom Home Care, Inc, and the Newport Age-Friendly AARP group.
