NEWPORT — Police say a 23-year-old Newport man went for a joyride on someone’s hayfield, smashing the vehicle and property in the process.

Henri Cyr, 23, of Newport, is facing charges of unlawful trespass, unlawful mischief, and aggravated operation without consent of the owner.

At around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, police say they responded to a residence on Route 105 in Newport Center, for a report of a suspicious incident.

Through investigation, responding troopers determined that Cyr had trespassed onto the property.

While on the property, Cyr operated a motor vehicle that had been parked on the premises without the consent of the vehicle’s owner. While operating the vehicle, he caused damage to a hayfield.

Police say he also drove into a tree, causing significant damage to the vehicle. While at the property, Cyr also smashed a glass window of a shanty.

Cyr was cited to appear in Orleans Superior Court, Criminal Division on June 13, 2017, to answer to the charges.
