NEWPORT — The Newport Police responded to a motor vehicle crash this morning that involved a tractor-trailer on Western Avenue.
The incident took place at approximately 7:45 a.m.
Police say that an 18-year-old male in a Chevy Cobalt was traveling on Mount Vernon Street and attempted to turn right on Western Avenue, when his car slid and entered the left lane of travel.
The Chevy then hit the rear driver’s side of the tractor-trailer.
Police say the 18-year-old male, as well as the 42-year-old Canadian citizen driving the tractor-trailer, were not injured.
The Chevy sustained substantial front-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
This incident remains under investigation, however, according to a statement issued by police, road conditions were found to be a factor in the crash.
The Newport Fire Department also responded to the scene.
