BARTON — Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place in Barton Saturday afternoon.

At around 3:45 p.m. police were notified of a single-vehicle crash on Tarbox Hill Road, just north of Postman Lane in Barton.

The driver was identified as 73-year-old David C. Yanacheak. Police say he was the only occupant in the vehicle, which was positioned off the eastern portion of the roadway with heavy front end damage.

Yanacheak was traveling in a 2002 Chevrolet pick-up truck, headed north on Tarbox Hill Rd.

Police say at some point he veered off the right side of the roadway onto the shoulder, and then further into the roadway drainage ditch where the truck collided head-on with a cement culvert.

Yanacheak was taken to North Country Hospital for treatment, before being transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for further treatment.

He died while en route as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

Police say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors at this point in the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is being asked to contact the Vermont State Police.
