NEWPORT — This Thursday, the Newport Police Department, along with Vermont State Police and the Vermont Intelligence Center, will host a forum to discuss the opioid crisis in Vermont this week.

The forum will take place at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at North Country Union High School.

The Newport Police Department is inviting community members to address concerns and constructive solutions to the opioid crisis in Orleans County.

The forum will include a presentation by law enforcement followed by a question and answer session.

“We encourage Newport residents to join us in learning about and addressing the opioid issue facing our community,” Chief DiSanto said.

Members of various law enforcement councils and police officers will be available to speak with concerned citizens and help those in attendance understand how opiate addiction affects family members and friends.

“Our hope is that, through knowledge and awareness, Vermont’s communities can join with law enforcement in an effort to solve this nationwide crisis in our own homes,” Chief DiSanto added.

  1. Although it has taken such a significant drug problem and tragedy to get this going, it makes me feel some peace knowing that law enforcement has taken this approach. It takes a village! Everyone should attend this! Learn the signs. Learn how to help. Learn. Learn. Learn. Addiction rips apart families and friends, through understanding and knowledge the NEK can overcome and beat this horrific problem.
