NEWPORT — Earlier this week the Orleans County Natural Resources Conservation District announced the arrival of ECO AmeriCorps member Lindsay Cotnoir to their staff.

Cotnoir graduated from North Country Union High School in 2012, and is returning to her hometown of Newport to serve the district after her graduation from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Environmental Science in May of this year.

She is excited to bring her experience in conservation and wildlife biology to the District.

Since beginning her service in September as a Nutrient Management Planner Assistant, Cotnoir has been working to help local farmers prepare for taking the upcoming “Digging In” class through UVM Extension this January.

In a partnership with Sterling College in Craftsbury, sixteen farmers from Orleans County and the surrounding area will be taking the six week UVM class starting in January.

Cotnoir has also been focusing on taking soil and manure samples and preparing land treatment plans, including field assessment and making maps.
