Driver, passenger transported to hospital after morning crash in Newport

NEWPORT — A 67-year-old driver from Island Pond and a passenger in the vehicle were taken to the hospital today after a car accident in Newport.

At around 9:15 a.m. police responded to the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Vermont Route 105 and Cross Road.

Matthew Marchica, 23, of Westminster was traveling in a 2014 Subaru Legacy, when it struck a 2009 Nissan Versa, driven by Michel Vallieres, 67, of Island Pond.

Damage to both vehicles was minimal, but Vallieres and a passenger in the vehicle were transported to North Country Hospital.

The Nissan sustained damage to the rear driver’s side tire and rear driver’s side door.

The crash remains under investigation.
