NEWPORT — Those who walk or drive by Bluffside Farm may have noticed some new signs out: “Hunting by Written Permission Only.”
While public access, including hunting, was not previously allowed on the property, the Vermont Land Trust supports public access on land they own.
The Scott Farm has become a popular spot for walkers and nature enthusiasts. As Vermont’s hunting season approaches, they have had requests from community members to hunt at Bluffside Farm.
They say they would like to accommodate hunters with appropriate access to the property. Newport’s hunting regulations allow for bow-hunting within city limits.
They are allowing a limited number of bow hunters on the property during a two-week period, from November 12-27, which coincides with the rifle deer season in other parts of the state.
This is the only time period hunting will be permitted and any hunters on the property will need to carry written permission from the Vermont Land Trust and hunt only in the designated portions of the property, away from neighboring houses.
Walkers should be aware that hunters may be present during this time period.
They will post signs in the parking lot alerting walkers to this fact. Hunters and walkers are encouraged to wear blaze orange during hunting season, no matter which property they are on.
If you know someone who might be interested in taking advantage of this hunting opportunity, have them call Dan Kilborn (802) 745-6303.
