Death at Crystal Lake in Barton

BARTON — A 41-year-old man from New York died while swimming at Crystal Lake in Barton on Thursday.

At around 7:15 p.m. the Vermont State Police received a call regarding a possible death as a result of a drowning at Crystal Lake.

Police say that Seth Parent, 41 of New Windsor, New York, died while swimming at the lake.

Parent was swimming with a family member when the family member noticed he was having what appeared to be a medical event.

He was taken to the shore at the fishing access where police say he was unresponsive.

The family member and bystanders who were fishing nearby immediately called 911 and initiated CPR.

The State Police, Barton Rescue and Glover Ambulance Services responded to the scene.

Parent was transported to North Country Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 8:34 p.m.

The cause of death is suspected to be the result of a medical event but is pending the results of an autopsy.

Police say the death is not considered suspicious.
