Police warning public after significant increase in burglaries around Orleans County

NEWPORT — Vermont State Police in Derby are telling residents in Orleans County to lock their doors, as they have seen a significant increase in burglaries in the Orleans County area recently.

Towns that have been targeted by burglaries include, Westfield, Jay, Irasburg, Craftsbury, Albany, and Troy.

In a statement issued by police today, they are reminding people to be vigilant and report suspicious activity, and if possible to try to get plate numbers and descriptions of vehicles or subjects.

Local law enforcement say they are actively pursuing leads and investigating numerous burglaries that have taken place across the area.

“It is recommended that the public lock your doors to assist in preventing easy access to your homes,” the statement reads.

The statement goes on to provide the public with steps that can be taken to help recover stolen goods.

“Measures that the public can take to assist law enforcement in helping to recover items is to record serial numbers or put identifying marks on your items that only you would know about.”
