ORLEANS — A man and a woman from Orleans are facing a slew of charges after police say the man assaulted a 67-year-old security guard who tried to question them about shoplifting, then hit him with their car as he chased them into the parking lot of the Green Mountain Mall.

Police say Amanda Gilbar, 26, and Dennis Saxton 24, were stopped by security as they left the Ocean State Job Lots at the Green Mountain Mall in St Johnsbury, on Tuesday, March 15.

Saxton agreed to speak with security guard Joe Perrault, 67, of St. Johnsbury, about shoplifting items from the store.

According to police, while up in the office Saxton assaulted Perrault as he fled the store. Perrault attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot.

Authorities say Gilbar backed into Perrault, striking him above the knees with the vehicle bumper, before fleeing the scene.

The vehicle was stopped a short time later in Lyndonville. Gilbar and Saxton had their infant daughter in the vehicle during the incident.

Saxton is charged with assault and retail theft.

Gilbar is charged with aggravated assault, retail theft, leaving the scene of an accident and cruelty to a child under ten by someone over 16.

  1. I wonder… she’s been selling tons of stuff with the tags still on the Orleans Trading group on Facebook for about a year…

  2. Toni, may I request you withdraw your comment since it slanders this couple and you offer no proof or evidence. Are you their friend? In which capacity do you know them?

  3. Whoever Toni is, she’s in for a big surprise. I doubt she exists – she certainly hasn’t had the guts to respond to any queries, she hasn’t offered any proof since none exists, and is for all we know a hoaxer who is doing serious damage to people’s reputations. People are innocent until proven guilty in this country. Perhaps Toni if she exists is from one of those countries that breeds the likes of ISIS since, like ISIS, Toni is indiscriminate in who she attacks and like ISIS doesn’t have the guts to put her money where her mouth is by identifying herself or substantiating her slanderous claims. If I were the young couple I would sue her for slander and, since she has written on a public forum, also for libel. Those of us who like to see justice done don’t like to see people like her creating a false history or putting out misguided and ill informed misinformation. When the true facts of this story are revealed later this week I would hope that the moderators of this site have the decency to remove Toni’s remark which is what they should have already done if they had any legal knowledge of what a libelous position she has put the Newport Dispatch in.
