DERBY — Police say a 46-year-old man from Orleans is facing multiple charges, after they began an investigation several months ago regarding a vulnerable adult and a family member who they say was taking advantage of him.

The arrest took place on Friday in Orleans.

Police say Dennis Crawford, 46, is facing charges of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult, grand larceny, abuse neglect of a vulnerable adult, and false information to a law enforcement officer.

The investigation started back in August, when police were tipped off about the case.

On Friday a search warrant was executed at Crawford’s residence with the help of Border Patrol, K-9 Units, VSP Computer Crimes, and local BCI personnel to look for further evidence of the crimes.

Police say the victim in the case is Theodore Ackley, 86, of Derby.

Crawford was arrested for the violations, and was released on conditions.
