Authorities say Sutton house fire considered suspicious

SUTTON — Authorities said today that the cause of a house fire in Sutton that took place over the weekend appears to be suspicious.

On Saturday, August 15, at around 10 a.m., the Sutton Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire located at 2093 U.S. Route 5, in Sutton.

Upon arriving at the scene the fire department discovered the structure was fully engulfed in flames. The building was not accessible by road and the fire department had to carry a portable pump to the scene to pump water from a
nearby river.

The building was a total loss as a result of the fire.

The Sutton Fire Chief requested a fire investigation be conducted based on the circumstances of the fire.

Today investigators from the Vermont State Police and the Division of Fire Safety said that the cause of the fire is undetermined, but believe it to be suspicious based on the location and condition of the house.

If anyone has information concerning this fire, they are being asked to contact the state Police or call the Arson tip line at 1-800-322-7766.

A reward of up to $5000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any persons charged with Arson.

The case remains under investigation at this time.
