Due to inclement weather, the previously scheduled VTrans public meeting has been rescheduled for January 7, 2015 from 2 to 4:00 p.m. VTrans would like to create a more bike-friendly Vermont and they are asking for comments in the run-up to the January 7th meeting.
If you use the roads for transportation and/or recreation then you have a vested interest in attending the meeting so we can all move forward together.
According to the League of American Bicyclists, “Bicycling is on the rise across the U.S. Adults are capitalizing on the health and economic benefits of active transportation, while an increasing number of young people are forgoing drivers’ licenses to save money and embrace more walkable, bikeable lifestyles.”
VTrans is trying to categorize state highway corridors in the hope that they can rank their importance and desirability for on-road biking, a move that speaks to the national trends. It’s critical to all of us that we weigh in and complete the On Road Bicycle Facility Plan so VTrans has an idea of where the ‘hot spots’ are and where they need to concentrate their efforts.
Please consider joining us at North Country Career Center in Newport for this important event, a great first step toward making our roads more user friendly and safer.
