NEWPORT — Santa will be riding into town tomorrow on one of Newport’s Fire Trucks in the Santa Parade, and then make his way back to Santa’s Workshop on Main Street where he will hear each child’s holiday wish.

The parade will feature Miss America’s Vermont Sweetheart, Alayna Westcom, marchers, floats and more starting at 11 a.m., as the parade, led by Newport City Police and a color guard, move up the Causeway to Main Street and then the Gateway Center. Parade registrations can still be made at 10 a.m., at Gardner Park.

Nearly 100 runners and walkers in Santa suits will be at the front of the parade as they enjoy their 1 mile or 5K run, walk, or jog, organized by Kingdom Games to benefit Toys for Kids. Registration and Santa suits are still available while supplies last. More information is available at www.newportlive.org.

At the State parking lot there will be free horse drawn wagon rides downtown. Radio station Moo 92 and Northeast Kingdom Community Action (NEKCA) will hold a Food Drive in the parking lot as well.

A Santa’s Workshop of games and crafts in the former Mill River building on Main Street will be organized by Newport Parks and Recreation. Decorating holiday cookies is the focus in a demonstration led by Jocelyn & Cinta’s Bakery in the Tasting Center on Main Street at 1:30, while a free hot chocolate party sponsored by RCT Shuttle at Santa’s Workshop, also on Main Street, will run from 11:30 to 1:00.
