NEWPORT — Three people from the Newport area are currently being held in Essex County, New York, after being caught traveling in a vehicle that was stolen in Newport Center, earlier in the week.

Police are saying that Adam Tatro, Samantha Shephard, and Kevin West, were taken into custody on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the week Newport Dispatch News reported that Terry Verdon, 39, of Newport Center, had his vehicle stolen sometime between 11:30 p.m. Sunday, and 5:00 a.m. Monday, October 27. The vehicle was parked at 2718 Lake Road, when it was stolen.

Thursday afternoon, the Essex County Sheriff’s Department in Ticonderoga, New York, called the Vermont State Police to report that they had recovered Verdon’s stolen vehicle, a blue, 2005 Hyundai Elantra, during a routine traffic stop.

Tatro, Shephard, and West were inside the vehicle when it was pulled over in New York. The three are currently being held in New York.

In the vehicle were numerous stolen items, some of which are from a recent rash of thefts in the Newport area. Newport Police were notified and they are working with the New York authorities to recover the stolen property.
