Motorcyclist dies after crashing into guardrail in Casco

CASCO — A motorcycle crash on Meadow Road in Casco has resulted in the death of Nicholas Murdock, 35, after he lost control of his vehicle and struck a mailbox and guardrail on July 1.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, along with Casco Fire and EMS, responded to the incident at 696 Meadow Road at approximately 4:30 p.m. Murdock, who was operating a 2014 Harley Davidson, was eastbound when he failed to navigate a corner properly, leading to the crash.

Despite wearing a helmet, Murdock sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Maine Medical Center by Life Flight.

Meadow Road was closed temporarily following the accident.

Authorities have cited speed as a contributing factor in the crash.

Murdock was pronounced dead at the hospital, upgrading the incident to a fatal motor vehicle crash.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office released the update on July 2 at 10 a.m. following the initial report of the crash.
