ORANGE — A hit-and-run accident late Wednesday night left five people injured after a high-speed vehicle ran a red light and collided with another car, according to the Orange Police Department.

The incident occurred on June 19 at 10:34 p.m., when officers on patrol observed a 2016 Mercedes C300 speeding westbound on Boston Post Road and passing them in the right lane near Lambert Road.

Seconds later, the Mercedes ran the red light at the intersection with Lambert Road and struck a 2017 Ford Escape that was heading south.

The impact sent the Mercedes crashing into a light post on the southwest corner of the intersection before coming to a halt in the parking lot of a TFI Friday’s restaurant.

The driver of the Mercedes fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Despite a search involving a K9 unit, the suspect remains at large.

During the pursuit, authorities found a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine.

Additionally, a substantial amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the Mercedes.

Three passengers from the Mercedes and two from the Ford Escape sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
