BROCKTON — State Police arrested a 19-year-old Maine man early Wednesday morning after finding him with an illegally carried loaded firearm outside a hotel.

Around 12:55 a.m., Troopers Matthew McCarthy and Austin Rose were on patrol on Westgate Drive when they noticed a Ford EcoSport parked in front of a hotel entrance.

Engaging with the vehicle’s lone occupant, the troopers discovered an open folding knife within the man’s reach and subsequently found a loaded Smith & Wesson .380 caliber pistol in his sweatshirt pocket during a frisk.

The man, identified as Qoriyo Abdirizak of Portland, Maine, was arrested after the troopers determined he did not have a license to carry a firearm.

Abdirizak was advised of his Miranda rights and taken to the SP-Milton Barracks for booking procedures.

Abdirizak faced arraignment in Brockton District Court on charges including carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
