BOSTON — Boston Police Department officers arrested an 18-year-old Dorchester resident Wednesday evening on firearm charges following an investigation in the area of 60 Southern Avenue.

At about 6:34 p.m., members of the Drug Control Unit from District E-18 (Hyde Park) and officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) observed Yozaxi Peguero, along with a group of young teenagers, acting suspiciously.

Peguero was seen repeatedly checking his messenger bag and mimicking the action of shooting with his hands.

When officers attempted to approach the group, they scattered, with Peguero forcing his way into a basement door of the building.

A foot chase ensued, during which Peguero reportedly resisted arrest and reached for his fanny pack.

Officers managed to restrain Peguero and subsequently found a loaded Bryco Jennings firearm on the second-floor landing.

The weapon was equipped with one round in the chamber and eleven rounds in the magazine.

Peguero now faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Breaking and Entering in the Daytime.

He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
