Driver arrested after fleeing Wellfleet car accident

WELLFLEET — A two-car collision early Sunday morning led to a police search and the arrest of a 31-year-old man who had fled the scene on foot, authorities said.

The Wellfleet Police Department received reports of the accident at about 6:08 a.m. on June 16, involving a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

Officers arrived shortly after to find that the driver of the pickup had left the scene.

The other driver involved in the crash was transported to Cape Cod Hospital by the Wellfleet Fire Department.

A K9 unit from the Yarmouth Police Department and a drone from the Truro Police Department were deployed to assist in the search for the fleeing driver in a wooded area near the crash site.

At approximately 9:21 a.m., Wellfleet Police officers located and arrested the suspect a quarter mile from the accident location.

He was also transported to Cape Cod Hospital.

The accident is still under investigation, and the Wellfleet Police Department expressed gratitude to their public safety partners in Yarmouth, Truro, and the Truro Fire Department for their assistance.
