Woman convicted for 2014 Newport car crash

NEWPORT — The Orleans County State’s Attorney’s Office has announced that last Friday, Heather Root, of Caledonia County, was convicted by a jury of three counts of gross negligent operation, serious bodily injury resulting.

Root’s charges stem from a motor vehicle crash that took place back on September 24, 2014.

On that date, the Newport Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on the Lake Road.

There were four passengers in the car at the time, one adult and three juveniles.

According to court records, one juvenile was not properly restrained in a car seat.

Three occupants suffered serious bodily injuries in the crash.

Root is incarcerated pending a sentencing hearing.
