BARTON — A crash in Barton early this morning sent five people to the hospital, with some of the victims being transported by DHART for serious injuries, police say.

At around 2:15 a.m. police were called to the single-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Hollow Road and Cross Road.

Police say the vehicle was found to be in contact with the dirt slope on the east side of Hollow Road, with the five occupants out of the vehicle with multiple injuries.

The driver was identified as Dylan Holmes-Sanborn, 18, of Newport. Police say he was not in possession of a valid operator’s license, and also found to have been operating the vehicle without the owner’s consent.

“A preliminary crash investigation revealed Holmes-Sanborn had been operating on Cross Road at an imprudent speed, crossed the intersection of Cross Road and Hollow Road, and collided with the dirt slope,” a statement issued by Trooper Daniel Lynch reads.

Holmes-Sanborn, along with four juvenile passengers, were transported to North Country Hospital by EMS.

Police say the injuries the juveniles suffered are considered to be serious, and that DHART air medical transport was requested.

Police are still investigating the crash, and say more information will be released later.
