BARTON — A 45-year-old woman was killed in a car crash on I-91 in Barton, Monday evening.
The incident took place at around 8:00 p.m.
Police say Stacy Bissell, 45, of White River Junction, was traveling southbound on I-91 when her 2014 Honda Accord traveled through the median and into the northbound lanes.
Bissell’s vehicle collided with a 2006 Subaru, operated by Richard Farrar, 59, of Newport.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and Bissell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Farrar was transported to North Country Hospital.
Police say it is still unclear if speed or alcohol played a role in the crash, but that the incident is still under investigation.
There were initial reports that one of the vehicles was on fire, however, that was not confirmed.
Precautionary measures were taken by Barton Fire Department.
Troopers from Derby and St. Johnsbury were at the scene, along with personnel from Barton Ambulance.
