BROWNINGTON — A 44-year-old woman from Brownington is facing numerous charges following a car accident in Georgia over the weekend.

Police were dispatched to a crash on Route 104 at around midnight on April 16.

After a brief investigation, they say they learned that Jennifer Simard, of Brownington, was operating the vehicle involved in the crash.

Police say the case is still under investigation, with charges pending for DUI-drugs, careless and negligent operation, possession of a controlled substance, and violation of conditions of release.

At the end of March, Simard was picked up for an outstanding arrest warrant for retail theft after being located at her Brownington home, the scene of the death investigation for 38-year-old Kevin Smith, of Brownington.

Police say Simard placed the 911 call reporting the death.

Authorities are still investigating whether Smith’s death was accidental, suicide or homicide, and Simard has not been charged in connection with the death investigation.

As part of the ongoing investigation of the motor vehicle crash, Simard was issued a citation to appear in Franklin county District Court on June 20, to answer the charges.
