[VIDEO] Derby Line set to get new sidewalks this summer

DERBY LINE — In the next few months Derby Line will be getting new sidewalks running from the Irving Station, up Caswell Avenue to Maple Street.

The project was initiated by village trustee Buzz Roy back in May of 2006.

Roy was able to get a $300,000 grant from VTrans to help pay for the cost of the project. He says the grant should cover about 80 percent of the total cost.

Bids were opened for the project on Thursday, with the lowest one coming in at $558,027.

The project, which would include demolition and removal of the old sidewalks, is expected to start in the next few months.

The project should be completed by September 1.

Although traffic along Caswell Avenue and Main Street can be busy at times given its location to the U.S. Port of Entry, Roy feels that construction can be scheduled accordingly to keep travel delays to a minimum.

“There certainly will be some delays now and then, but it should be minor,” said Roy.
