Newport woman seriously injured after being hit by car

NEWPORT — Police say that a 53-year-old woman from Newport suffered life-threatening injuries on Saturday after being hit by a car.

The incident took place at around 2:24 p.m. Police say they were notified that a car had struck a pedestrian on Pleasant Street, in Newport.

The victim has been identified as Cindy Combs.

Combs was transported to North Country Hospital for what authorities describe as life-threatening injuries.

She was later transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Police say that the operator of the vehicle was not injured during the accident.

There is no more information at this time, but police say that the case is still under investigation.
