DERBY — A tractor-trailer that was towing a manure spreader overturned in Derby this afternoon.

The single vehicle accident took place on U.S. Route 5 in the Town of Derby, at around 11:25 a.m.

Police say that the driver, Michael Judd, 72, of Derby, was wearing his seatbelt at the time and not injured in the crash

A report issued by police states that their investigation determined that due to the speed of the tractor-trailer unit, Judd was forced to drive partially off the roadway in order to avoid colliding with another vehicle.

The soft ground caused the unit to overturn.
