Police: 3-year-old child from Island Pond killed in car crash

BRIGHTON — Police are saying that a 3-year-old child from Island Pond was killed in a car accident on Sunday.

The single-vehicle crash took place on Vermont Route 114, just after 12 p.m. on Sunday, in the town of Brighton.

Police say that the driver, Christina Deslandes, age 25, was traveling northbound when her vehicle crossed both the centerline and southbound lane of travel, where it collided with a telephone pole.

Both Deslandes, and a 3-year-old passenger, were transported to North Country Hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Police say that the child was pronounced deceased at the hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. According to a statement issued by police, Deslandes suffered only “minor injuries.”

Police say that the investigation is ongoing.
