Suspect arrested for burglary and operating without owners consent in Newport Center

NEWPORT — An 18-year-old man from Newport Center was arrested on Wednesday after being charged with burglary and operating without owners consent.

Police say that on May 2, Donald Kelley, 65, of Newport Center, called to report that someone had stolen his truck and had broken into his camp.

Authorities say that It was determined through an investigation that an 18-year-old from Newport Center was responsible for the crime.

Police say the suspect stole several items from Kelley’s residence, forced entry into Kelley’s camp, and left with Kelley’s vehicle.

The suspect was located on Pleasant Street in Newport City on Wednesday and lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility for lack of $1,000 bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Orleans District Court on May 26, to answer to the charges.
