derby car accidentDERBY — A 29-year-old man was taken to North Country Hospital on New Year’s Day after he crashed into a utility pole on Dumas Road in Derby.

Police say Eric Fillmore was traveling to work early New Year’s Day, when he lost control of his 2004 Jeep Cherokee. Fillmore traveled off the side of the road, striking a utility pole. The crash took place at 5:40 a.m.

Once the pole snapped, it landed on the hood of Fillmore’s Jeep.

Vermont Electric Co-Op was called and came out to shut the power off and repair the pole. The lines had been laying in the roadway after the accident.

Fillmore was taken to the hospital for what police describe as minor injuries.

Police report that road conditions were “icy, under a coating of snow.”
